Calling on my Elevated and Benevolent Ancestors is a working altar built for and with my actual ancestors. They are resisters, protectors, and my guides. Set within the hostile white neutrality of the gallery, it carves out space of Black rest and spirituality. A mirror near the center reflects my place in this lineage. This is designed to be an interception of who gets to dominate these spaces, in what capacity, and why.
